Private Aids to Navigation

A Private Aid to Navigation is a buoy, light or daybeacon owned and maintained by any individual or organization other than the U.S. Coast Guard. These aids are designed to allow individuals or organizations to mark privately owned marine obstructions or other similar hazards to navigation. For further information, contact your local Coast Guard District Aids to Navigtion Office.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regulates the placement of mooring buoys in all navigable U.S. waters. Those wishing to establish mooring buoys need to contact their local Army Corps of Engineers.
