Can you tell me about the Coast Guard Auxiliary? How do I join?

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer organization with no military obligations or privileges. Members are civilian boaters who assist the Coast Guard in its recreational boating safety program by teaching boating safety classes, carrying out safety patrols and performing many other activities.

Membership is open to any citizen of the U.S. and its territories and possessions, who is 17 years of age or older, and subject to a favorable Personnel Security Investigation. Facility (radio station, vessel, or aircraft) ownership and special skills are desirable, but not mandatory. Auxiliary membership is open to all U.S. citizens who are current active duty personnel or former members of any uniformed service and their Reserve components, to include the Coast Guard, discharged under honorable conditions.

If you are interested in joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary, you can call 1-800-336-2628 to obtain information about Auxiliary locations. You can also visit their Web site at www.cgaux.org
